Steamboat Wharf
We started our farm in the small town of Morattico, Virginia, and our name is a nod to a steamboat wharf that used to exist on top of our lease. In an earlier century, Morattico was a hub for steamboats bringing produce and raw materials from the farmland to the urban centers of Baltimore, D.C., and Philadelphia. Steamboat Wharf featured a cannery that bought wild oysters from the watermen who dredged the bay a century ago. Today, the only remnants of Steamboat Wharf are a few weathered dock pilings, broken sippin’ jugs, and thriving wild oyster bar.
